September 11 now carries a happier tone, as it was the official proclamation of the beginning of the reign of King Charles III.
A brisk 20 minute walk from your accommodation at Parkside, or a 10 minute drive ( or public transport, free for this special day) would have brought you to North Terrace, where the ceremony occurred, in front of the steps to Parliament House.
A rousing, entertaining and generous Welcome To Country was given by Major “Moogy” Sumner, and concluded with a traditional smoking ceremony. The photos attached were taken within the large crowd that gathered to pay respect to the late Queen Elizabeth, and many lined up to sign the register of condolence.
And Vexillology? Well, that’s the study of flags, and our resident vexillologist tells us that the state ensign was unfurled at the end of the ceremony. He adds that the two longer distance shots show flags incorrectly at half staff, rather than half mast. He also adds that for this day of proclamation, all flags should have been returned to full staff anyway.
